Tame your mainframe testing with Robotic Process Automation

Are your mainframe systems holding you back from delivering change?

Does your mainframe testing snowball – taking more time and more resources each project?

Our experience with a wide variety of mainframe clients has shown us that the traditional slow, cumbersome, manual mainframe testing has knock on effects throughout the whole organisation, preventing change from being delivered in a timely manner. Many organisations are hamstrung by the need to test the mainframe systems (the back end) when changing only the front end which means their Agile and DevOps teams are unable to release fast and frequently.

Do you want to achieve quick wins? (Hint: Focus on Minimum Viable Product)

DevOps is all about fast and frequent deployments, measuring value and continual improvement. I’m sure you have heard about reducing batch sizes in order to decrease lead time, increase deployment frequency and improve stability and quality. Well, focusing on the minimum viable product is one way to reduce batch sizes and enable more frequent deployments.

What is meant by Minimum Viable Product (MVP)?

A product which is delivered with just enough features/capabilities to satisfy a subset of users and validate a business use case. Once the product is released, the subset of users will provide feedback which will drive the direction and delivery of subsequent features (or halt development if the product does not appear to have viable business value). Products generally follow an iterative deployment model, and the product evolves through multiple deployments before the product is seen as ‘complete’.

Client story – overcoming tough challenges!

Using our skill and wide-ranging experience to deliver automation in a Tier-1 client.

One of our most recent projects was delivering lifecycle automation for a Tier-1 client.  As with any and every “DevOps project”, there were a number of challenges we overcame when delivering the project. In this blog, I will talk about some of the hurdles we came up against and how we managed to work through them, as well as some of the project successes.

We see a few common challenges in some form or the other at every client we work with. The way we work through these challenges and overcome hurdles is where our skill and wide-ranging experience in delivering this type of DevOps project really come into their own.
